Team Nus Muay Thai has been training 5-6days a week, 2 sessions a day for 1&1/2 mnths during the holiday. Today, 1st Feb 08, is the day to prove our hardwork. These are the essentials when i was packing my stuffs in the morning for the fight competition held at SMU....Handwraps, Gloves, Mt shorts..wat's not in the pic and super essential are mouth guard and GROIN Guard!...
Before we fight, we performed a simplified Wai Kru(pre-fight ritual dance). We will pray to our corner to ask spirits for permission to fight on this ring and punch+curse our opponent's corner to make them lose...haha...(i din do that to my opp, i prayed for him actually....but he stepped on my corner...haiya..SMU ppl...)
Here's my whole fight team! The extreme right guy(bottom) is our coach...he tries to act nerdy..but he's damn fierce and tough...
not all ppl here are fighting, some of them got injured and was pulled out of the competition..they have trained well and helped the team alot...so they deserve credits too!!!
THE CHAMPION!!!THE CHAMPION!!!THE CHAMPION!!! IT GOES TO.....
"ZHONG".....
Ha...I am the overall Champion for 61-65kg Men's fighter...this is the Gold Medal awarded to me, sponsored by Lonsdale....
1st match:
I fought against a SMU "corky" guy... he was doing the stamping and cursing at my corner during the Wai Kru...
I scored a right Cross knock down on him, a knee knock down and eventually he was pronounced T.KO(technical Knock Out) coz he tried 3 times and he couldn't reali standup and walk after incurring low roundhouse kicks by me.. ya..he walked 2 steps and fell on the floor...tried 3 times...no choice, the referee annouced that he could not fight anymore during the start of round 3....my frens were seriously v happy for me coz they said tat guy looked damn corky... hmmm...but during the fight, I WAS SUPER CORKY!!!whahaa.. actually he wasn't a weak fighter or wat, juz tat he was doing the same combos everytime...
2nd MATCH:
I fought with a Singapore Polytechnic guy(i dunno his age). His punches were so strong tat his prev opponent, my team mate, got a cut in his right eyelid, bleeding nose and nearly dislocated right hand during the fight!!!
when i fought with him, I must admit he has very heavy punches...i got 2 hits in the head, i know i might get dizzy spell if i got the 3rd one... so after 1st round of 2nd match, i changed my strategy against him....stop his punches....he got kicked off balance and fell onto the floor a couple of times by my low kicks...and tat reali softened him down... eventually, i won the match by playing kicking games with him!!!
"you're worthy to win the fight, you are better..." this was wat he told me after the fight.... ha...but i seriously could have lost if i stuck on to punching games with him......
straight after the bell, we hugged each other to smhow acknowledge that we enjoyed the fight juz now..ha..fighters' telepathy...eeewwww...gayish..
Aftermath feelings:
I am one of the few guys who never reli incurred much damages unlike my teammates who got cuts in the eyes, nose swollen, bandage arm or badly bruised legs... I reli prayed for my own safety before i fought coz you reli dunno wat'll happen on the ring...haha...the only injury i got, which i myself dun reli understand how i got it was...i have a swollen right thumb after the fight....????(i was wearing handwraps and gloves lor....how did tat happened???)
It reali feels good to compete in a ring sports... in the ring, you cannot run, cannot hide...no one is going to help you...you have to observe your opponent' s weakness, test him out, control your cardio and fight with a sound plan in your mind despite all the pressures on the ring!!!(we were at SMU...their house...ha..but overall our team won more categories than them...reli very happy!)
I've learnt alot from these fights....and no matter how much damage we inflict on each other, we would always bow and pay respect to our opponent to respect him as a fighter who dares to come up the ring and fight! you reali know how courageous are you only if you are thrown into a situation like this....be a fighter...mentally and physically!!!
